Introducing....

Hi! Bonjour! Guten Tag!

Welcome to my blog, Sweater Vests. No, I do not sell sweater vests. I do not make sweater vests. I don't even have a sweater vest. I just like them. A lot. The boys in my grade will wear them and it makes my day.

So, I guess it is time for an introduction. I'm Lissie, a teenager. I'm in middle school, on the verge of high school. I have 3 main hobbies in life:
-writing
-reading
-dreaming
Most of the time, my writing skills come to naught because I'm way too lazy to get up, turn the computer on, and type (but isn't that what I'm doing now..hmm, I guess my logic is messed up)

I wanted to start a blog because a) I was bored b) I love to write, even about trivial stuff and c) I want to chronicle the life of a teenager. One of my biggest pet peeves about YA authors is that they totally misrepresent the life of a teenager, in my opinion at least. We all go through this stage, but most of those authors lived in a different time period. They understand us, but don't. I want to remember/show everyone how we (as in kids my age) feel in today's times. It's that simple.

This blog also has another purpose. I love to read and to exchange book titles with people, my way of spreading the joy. So I'll write down what I'm reading (and trust me, this changes like every day).

I read almost every genre. My all-time favorite is fantasy (this is mostly what I write), followed by historical fiction, though I'm really getting into science fiction after reading The Hunger Games. Which brings me to my introduction...

Favorite Color: It changes, based on my mood. Today it is light, light blue, because I'm very relaxed. I really like reds, as they are passionate colors and my friends describe me as a passionate person. Though I really like green too, like a forest green, thanks to my...

Favorite Book Character: Katniss from The Hunger Games (which is my favorite book, and I'll refer to it as THG from now on). We are very alike: cold, not touchy-feely, but like being pampered and loved and crave that most of all, though we hardly admit it. My friend Rue (a character also from THG) calls me Katniss. And Annabeth too, from Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I have a major crush on Percy, and am so excited to see the movie (coming to theaters February 2010). Though I hate who they chose for Annabeth...she has brown hair and is 23 years old, which makes me steaming mad. Anyhow...

Favorite Song/Kind of Music: I like every genre. I'm really into Duffy right now. I can totally relate to her sometimes. I get fed up with guys a lot. My favorite song at the moment is "Delayed Devotion," by the aforesaid Duffy.

Favorite Books: I've read sooooooooo many books I cannot even begin to count. Here are my top 10.
1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
2. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
3. Legacy by Cayla Kluver (she is my idol. Google her)
4. Angel on the Square by Gloria Whelan (from my younger years)
5. Ophelia by Lisa Klein (I have a thing for Shakespeare re-tellings. I just finished reading Romeo and Juliet and class so have better understanding now)
6. I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak
7. Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier
8. Bella at Midnight by Diane Stanley (also from my younger years)
9. Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George (all I want now is a guy who knits, thanks to Galen in this book...I also have a thing for fairytale re-tellings)
10. The Possibilities of Sainthood by Donna Freitas (this book kept me laughing for weeks)

Physical Description: On a good day, mysterious grey eyes and golden hair. On a bad day, blonde hair and light eyes. Clear enough skin. Etc. I'm quite normal looking, though I really enjoy when people say "You look German." I lived in Germany for three years, spoke it fluently (though I lost most of it now, I can still understand it), and feel a deep connection to Europe.

Part of who I am is that I travel and love doing so. I love Europe with all my heart. A ton of inspiration comes from their culture. I love history class for that reason (and also because I sit by Waterboy...we'll talk about that later:)

I write mostly fantasy. I don't really want to say who/what I'm writing about, because I'm super paranoid about being copied, but the main idea in my head has been there since last June and hasn't left since. I'm really excited about it. If only I could get myself to sit down and write....I do have drive, but I'm a very moody person. Writing for me all depends on the day.

My best friend is Rose. She is very much like me, but at the same time isn't. We are both dark people. She is really good at art, while I'm really good at writing. She is a great student; I'm labeled as spectacular because I've taken the SATs twice in middle school and got a 700 in verbal on my last one. We both have blue/grey/green eyes and similar colored hair and are relatively skinny, but the resemblance ends there. We've been best friends since last May; I've only had two best friends so far in my life, including her. I don't know what makes us so close, but she is a sister to me. Next year our whole grade goes off to seperate high schools, as our school only goes to 8th grade. I don't want to lose her. I love her so much. It sounds all sappy and stuff but she is the sister I never had (I just have a brother who is really awesome at sports; I consider that cruel because I have no hand/eye coordination what-so-ever).

While Rose has a boyfriend, I do not. I feel very divided inside on this issue. I'm still very young and can wait a long time, but I cannot help wanting what Rose has. I have stand-on-the-sidelines-and-look-in syndrome: I am there being happy for both Rose and my elementary school best friend Zoey (she lives out of state now), but I feel a little disconnected sometimes from them because I have never been a boy magnet. Which is a good thing. It's hard for me sometimes though. My friend Rue is like a millimeter away from getting the guy she likes and I feel alone sometimes. But then I eat chocolate and feel all better.

I like this guy named Waterboy. I'll talk about him more later. Rose is very optimistic on the subject on him, but I'm not so sure. Don't have a cow, you'll learn more later.

I had conferences today. My advisor Mr. Dutchman is really hilarious. He is from Europe and can totally sympathize with me on my horrible French pronunciation. I'm really good at French but can't speak with "an authentic French accent" for my life, which makes my teacher really mad. She says I speak French like a German, which is more of a compliment than an insult to me. Mr. Dutchman teaches PE, my worst non-academic subject. I seriously suck. Can't catch or throw a ball for my life.

So that was my introduction...I can tell this is going to be fun.
